New Facility at the Ruby Stain MuseumThe Ruby Stain Museum is about building a study collection. In order to study a collection it needs to be readily visible and available. Stored in boxes in the basement is nice but what good does it do for anybody but the sellers and the owner’s ego? About three years ago we began planning a new facility to allow us to get more glass in the open for study. Thus “the basement” was born. It is a New Orleans basement which has been converted into an open storage area and work space. It contains over a half mile of visible and readily accessible shelving. The Friday before Katrina the last workman left with the statement that on Monday he would finish up a few loose ends and start on a new project. Actually Monday found him in a hunting camp with his pickup, two dogs, a shotgun and one change of clothes. Everything else he owned was being destroyed. This June we began to use the new facility. Given the state of things in New Orleans we will probably not be able to finish the construction of the glass around the shelves. Please stay tuned... We are editing the videos at this time. Shouldn't be too much longer. |
