Ruth B. Goldsworthy, also known by her friends as "Brock" or "Goldie" passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004, at the age of 90, in Green Valley, AZ. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia (AKA Sylvia) and Phil Felix, three nieces, one nephew, and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Goldsworthy in 1974, her parents, Henry and Ora P. Hester Brock, her three brothers, Joseph, Porter, and Paul Brock, a nephew and two nieces, and by her best friend and soul mate, Orville Ayle.

She was born in Gallup, NM, April 20,1914, grew up in Gamerco, a mining camp, and graduated from Gallup High School in 1932.

A graduate of the University of New Mexico in 1936, she taught for one year before marrying Fred, a civil engineer. His career took them to southern New Mexico and Washington state where their daughter was born. In 1950 they returned to Albuquerque and Ruth taught at Whittier Elementary School for 26 years as a first-grade teacher before retirement.

She was a loyal supporter of the University of New Mexico, receiving the LOBO AWARD in 1987 from the UNM Alumni Association for outstanding service. She received frequent recognition from her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. She was an inspiration for loyalty, persistence, high standards, and hard work. Her list of other involvements is too long to list here.

She had an eye for beautiful things and she surrounded herself with them. She enjoyed traveling, archaeology, gardening - especially roses, cats, Native American arts, collecting Ruby Stain glass, playing Canasta, and finding ways to help those around her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to UNM or to your favorite charity.

Ruth requested her ashes be scattered on the Sandia Mountains so that when people who knew her and loved her were dusting, they could reflect, "Well, here's Ruth, visiting me today," and then smile and remember the good times.

For those who wish to, we will caravan to Sandia Crest to scatter Ruth's ashes, then join us for a supper afterwards.
